New Hope Valley Railway's steam locomotive blazes through it's 6 mile track passengers in tow. The New Hope Valley Railway was exactly one-hundred years old on Sunday. The tracks now operated were originally built as the Durham & South Carolina Railroad in 1906, and the very first ever revenue producing train was operated on June 4 1906. The National Railway Historical Society bought the Bonsal rail yard and six miles of track before they were to be demolished. The black steam engine in use was built in 1941 and commissioned at the New York Navy Shipward for WWII. The engine weighs about 45 tons and maintained with authentic equipment.
